About BOBRUFC
Barker Old Boys Rugby Union Football Club (BOBRUFC) was established in 1968 by a group of past students of Barker College. The records reflect that in 1968, the Club's first year of inception where the Sydney Rugby Union competition was joined, there was no President. However, the Club's formation owes a great deal to three former Barker students who helped gather a like minded group of mates with the soul purpose of playing rugby. Those three men are:-
Guy Shepperd (1962)
Lindsay Allen (1965)
Bill Cayzer (1965)
In addition to those who formed the Club in 1968, it was the alumni of Barker College who provided the wherewithal to get the Club on the paddock. The Old Barker Association provided BOBs with its first set of jerseys and has continued to support the Club throughout the years via one means or another.
That first year was a tough one, however, with some steely determination, collective grit and pride in the navy and red jersey, Barker Old Boys (BOBs) have survived many good and some hard times to evolve into a rugby club that today has won over eight (8) various suburban club rugby grade premierships. Over thirty (30) BOBRUFC members have been selected to play representative rugby in the NSW Suburban Rep. squad.
Home ground almost since the Club began has been Turramurra Memorial Oval, now affectionately known as BOBs Stadium. Each Saturday, like many Saturdays in seasons past, the Club takes to the paddock traditionally fielding four (4) grades. Recently, the Club has grown to include a team that plays in the Halligan Cup competition - the gentlemen's comp!
BOBs are well known to many supporters and members alike as a Club that doesn't take itself too seriously, however, takes what it does seriously. We play to win and enjoy our rugby with mates new and old. New players of all abilities and talent have always been welcomed to BOBs. The Club prides itself on assisting to navigate the introduction to the big world of grade rugby to many of the Barker rookies who join just out of School. The away game bus trips give birth to a new legend each season. Also growing in statue each year is the BOBRUFC home game marquee and BBQ. This has expanded each year, along with shouts on the sideline, both verbal and fluid of nature.
BOBs looks back on its history with pride. We look forward to our future with unbridled enthusiasm.
